Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.
At the Centennial Gala Celebration on April 27, 2019, additional alumni, faculty, and friends will be honored.
Throughout Dr. Day’s distinguished career in optometry, he passionately cared for his patients and the community. He was a leader in many aspects, having served as president of the North Carolina Optometric Society and president of the North Carolina State Board of Examiners in Optometry. He also served as president of the International Association of Boards and President of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. In 1974, Dr. Day was named Optometrist of the South by the Southern Council of Optometrists and later served as president of the association which represents 12 states. Dr. Day did not limit his service to just his profession. Upon his retirement, he served as a pastor in North Carolina. He was also actively involved for many years with the Boy Scouts of America, having received the Silver Wreath Award from the National Eagle Scout Association. Dr. Day died February 25, 2018 in North Carolina.
