Centennial
Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.
At the Centennial Gala Celebration on April 27, 2019, additional alumni, faculty, and friends will be honored.
During his lifetime, Dr. Costabile made a profound impact on optometry in the state of North Carolina. He spearheaded the introduction of diagnostic and therapeutic drug legislation within the state and played an integral role in ensuring its passage. He helped found the 13-state Southern Council of Optometrists and served as President of that organization. Dr. Costabile was a ten-year member and President of the North Carolina Board of Examiners in Optometry and served for more than 30 years as Secretary/Treasurer of the North Carolina Optometric Association. He was a member of the College Board of trustees from 1962 to 1964. In 1974, he was named Optometrist of the Year by the American optometric Association. Dr. Costabile was Alumnus of the Year in 1986.
