Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.
At the Centennial Gala Celebration on April 27, 2019, additional alumni, faculty, and friends will be honored.
Dr. Ron G. Fair has passionately served as a distinguished leader in the field of optometry for more than 60 years. Dr. Fair was named Pennsylvania College of Optometry Alumnus of the Year in 1978 and served as Chair of the College Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1986. Among the highlights of his tenure as Board Chair were the establishment of the Institute for the Visually Impaired, the acquisition of the Paley Building, and the accreditation of the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Fair served as President of the Colorado Optometric Association, President of the American Optometric Association and President of the National Academies of Practice. As an author and lecturer, Dr. Fair was also a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academy of Practice in Optometry. Dr. Fair served as a Doctor of Optometry for the United States Army before starting his own practice in Brighton, Colorado in 1959. In 2011, he retired after more than 50 years in practice. Since his retirement, Dr. Fair ventured outside the field of optometry to research and develop the Incontinent Kit – a personal care item to assist individuals who are bedridden. During his spare time, he actively serves as a Rotarian, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
