Representatives from TD Charitable Foundation, the corporate giving arm of TD Bank, visited Salus on July 10 to present a $10,000 check to support the University’s “Looking Out for Kids” (LOFK) charity. The donation will directly benefit the vision care initiative and services Salus provides in the Norristown Area School District (NASD).
Geoffrey D. Brandon, SVP, regional vice president of commercial lending for TD Bank, presented the check along with Scott Bachman, vice president and relationship manager for commercial lending at TD Bank, and Darryl Allen, TD Bank’s Jenkintown store manager. Mr. Brandon said he was grateful for the Unversity’s involvement and commitment to the Norristown community.
“The TD Charitable Foundation is very focused on funding programs that help transform the lives of those most vulnerable in our community and Salus University's "Looking Out for Kids" initiative in Norristown most certainly fulfills that criteria,” he said. “As someone who grew up in the Borough of Norristown and graduated from Norristown Area High School, it's personally rewarding for me to see our corporate philanthropy making such a meaningful impact in the lives of Norristown students, through the amazing work done by Salus.”
Since the 2012-2013 academic year, the University has partnered with NASD to establish a rotating school-based vision clinic model where the portable examination equipment is transported directly to an area within individual schools. Students in need who have failed the state-mandated vision screenings are provided comprehensive vision exams and two pairs of glasses are dispensed to their schools if they require a prescription. During the 2016-17 academic year alone, more than 180 children in Norristown received comprehensive eye exams and more than 290 pairs of eyeglasses were dispensed.
