Role at Salus University:
The President has the ultimate managerial responsibility for the fiscal accountability and viability of the institution; the development of new resources for the University; charting the future course of its educational programs and on-going institutional planning and research. Dr. Lewis has served as President of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, his alma mater, since 1989.
Prior to his appointment, he served as Dean of Academic Affairs (1979-1989); as Chief of Professional Staff at The Eye Institute (1977-1979); and as Director of the Division of Biological Sciences (1975-1978).
Dr. Lewis has more than three decades of teaching experience both nationally and internationally. He currently holds the rank of Professor of Anatomy at PCO, where he has twice been selected by students as Educator of the Year. In addition, he is an active faculty member of the University’s Continuing Education Department and Center for International Studies, where his area of expertise is glaucoma. Dr. Lewis has also provided expert testimony to numerous state legislatures concerning therapeutic drug legislation and expanding the scope of optometry.

Dr. Thomas L. Lewis received ASCO's first Lifetime Achievement Award for his 30 years of outstanding contributions to ASCO, initially as Dean and President of PCO, and now as President of Salus University. Dr. Lewis is the co-editor of Primary Care of the Glaucomas, published in 1992 and 2000, and has been a frequent contributor to both optometric and other professional journals. In addition, he holds editorial responsibilities for the Review of Optometry. He has also made numerous presentations to the American Academy of Optometry and other groups.
