There is no better way to start off the first game of the basketball season than with a game winning shot at the buzzer!
For the girl’s league, the Hemoglobin Trotters had a lead on Eye Ballaz in the last few minutes of the second half, but Eye Ballaz never let up as they kept creeping back. A time out was called with 6.3 seconds left on the clock as Eye Ballaz were down by 2. With time running down on the clock captain Mackenzie Cox swishes a 3 pointer at the buzzer to bring her Eye Ballaz team to (1-0) for the season.
For the boy’s league, the FAPSS team continued right where they left off from last year going (1-0) for the season. Both second year teams picked up a victory against the third years and the combined duo of Andrew Williams and Andrew Apple bring their 4th year team to (1-0).
Girls League:
Hemoglobin Trotters (0-1) vs Eye Ballaz (1-0): 33-32
Old Hags (0-1) vs Fighting Irises (1-0): 19-13
Boys League:
FAPSS (1-0) v. Class of 2015B (0-1): 54-27
Class of 2013A (0-1) v. Class of 2014B (1-0): 32-28
Class of 2013B (0-1) v. Class of 2014A (1-0): 42-20
Class of 2015A (0-1) v. Class of 2012 (1-0): 54-38
After a scheduling conflict with the gym on Thursday, the girl’s game was rescheduled for next week so the two undefeated teams will have to wait eagerly to battle it out.
For the boy’s games, four teams still remain undefeated! The FAPPS continue to play their games with no bench as they go (2-0) for the season. Team 2013A gave them a good run towards the second half where they started to come back slowly. With one minute left, 2013A hit a three pointer to bring their deficit to just three points. Team 2013A then called a timeout with 11.3 seconds left, as FAPPS missed two free throws on a personal foul - giving the opposing team some life. Unfortunately, the 3 ball was missed at the buzzer in order to take the game into overtime.
The game of the night, which was moved from 6:00 to 10:00PM between 2013B and 2014B was a nail biter throughout the entire game - until about the one minute warning mark, when Cole Boykin (2014B) clinched the game by draining one of his 6 three pointers in the final minute. Three players ended up with a double-double in points and rebounds last night: Mike Joyce (2012), Kim Sor (FAPPS) and Xavier Thompson (2014B).
Two players are putting up MVP numbers up to this point, where they hold three columns on the leader board: Andrew Williams (2012) and Kim Sor (FAPPS).

Class of 2013A (0-2) v. FAPSS (2-0) 47-44
Girls League:
The first year Eye Ballaz team love keeping it close, as they win yet again by merely one point and are the only undefeated team left! The Fighting Irises put up a good fight last night, but the Hemoglobin Trotters’ inside game was too much for them as they picked up their first win of the season.
Eye Ballaz (2-0) vs Old Hags (0-2) 15-14
Hemoglobin Trotters (1-1) vs Fighting Irises (1-1) 32-22 (Hemoglobin Trotters)
Boys League:
And then there were only three! Three of the four games last night were intense, as each of those games were won by three points or less.
It looked like an upset was about to happen last night, as FAPPS was down by 10 with roughly two minutes left in the game. FAPPS never gave up and kept their composure as missed free throws by 2013B kept FAPPS in the game. Down by two - with six seconds left on the clock - Greg Leder nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to keep their win streak alive and still remain undefeated.
A battle to see which year (first or third) would pick up a victory first was won by the third years Team 2013A, as Team 2015B tried to pick it up towards the end after a slow start.
The game of the night was truly a game to witness as it was a hard fought battle on both ends of the court with many lead changes. Team 2012 had the ball down by two points - with 10 seconds left on the clock - but the tenacious defense kept them from getting a shot up as time expired on the clock giving Team 2014A the victory.
The competition is really starting to heat up as five players picked up a double-double in both points and rebounds last night: Bryan Crosby (2013B), Joe Osbold (2013A), Matthew Wadas (2015B), Tyler Doersam (2014B) and Xavier Thompson (2014B). Two players hold three columns each on the leader board: Andrew Apple (2012) and Kim Sor (FAPPS).
Class of 2013B (0-3) v. FAPSS (3-0) 52-51
Class of 2013A (1-2) v. Class of 2015B (0-3) 35-32
Class of 2012 (2-1) v. Class of 2014A (3-0) 52-50
Class of 2014B (3-0) v. Class of 2015A (0-3) 59-38
Girls League:
After the girls have played at least each team once, the first year Eye Ballaz have swept them all, keeping their games interesting by winning by slim margins. The Hemoglobin Trotters are starting to heat it up as they win in back to back weeks. Let’s see what the second round has to offer us!
Eye Ballaz (3-0) vs Fighting Irises (1-2) 16-12
Hemoglobin Trotters (2-1) vs Old Hags (0-3) 28-4
Boys League
Last night it was showering behind the three point line as Lou Moriano (2013A) and Tommy Rozelle (2015B) both hit six 3-pointers each! Team 2015A came out firing last night having their best game of the season so far and picking up their first victory.
Team 2013A is starting a little win streak of their own, bringing them to (2-2) as they took down their classmates in a close match up. The battle to see if only one undefeated team is left will have to wait another week as two teams still remain!
The tenacious defense that 2014A brings to the court keeps them cruising along where as a team they had 21 steals to pick up their fourth win of the season.
The game of the night was truly at 9PM where it was a sight to see! The intensity was high on both ends of the court with many lead changes; however, the FAPPS team REFUSES to lose. FAPPS were down by three points with merely 10 seconds left on the clock and Dr. Snyder (FAPPS) nailed a 3-pointer to bring the game into overtime! In overtime, FAPPS down again by one point with a few seconds left on the clock and this time Dr. Snyder launched a prayer from the orange line and was fouled in the act of shooting!
With 0.5 seconds left and three shots to go, Dr. Snyder missed the first free throw and then drained the next two! Team 2012 had one miracle heave left. They threw it to the opposite end of the court, where it was caught and shot in midair, air-balled, Andrew Apple (2012) then caught it quickly in the air and chucked it up - the basket went in, but time had expired!
A few questionable calls by the refs and time not on their side, Team 2012 suffered another tough loss as FAPPS continue running with their streak.
Again five players with a double-double in both points and rebounds: Avi Motola (2015A), Brandon Wuzzardo (2013B), Brett Iginoba (2015A), Kim Sor (FAPPS) and Michael Bittner (2014A). As competition keeps stiffening up, Kim Sor is the only one holding three columns on the leader board.
Class of 2015A (1-3) v. Class of 2015B (0-4) 68-42
Class of 2014A (4-0) v. Class of 2014B (3-1) 56-32
Class of 2013A (2-2) v. Class of 2013B (0-4) 45-38
Class of 2012 (2-2) v. FAPSS (4-0) 51-50
Girls League:
As the second half of the season starts off for the girls there were some statements made. Old Hags finally picked up their first victory of the season, showing everyone that they still have some fight in them.
The Hemoglobin Trotters did not want to have what happened to them the last time they faced off, as they picked it up a notch and blew past Eye Ballaz giving them their first loss of the season.
Old Hags (1-3) vs Fighting Irises (1-3) 18-10 (Old Hags)
Hemoglobin Trotters (3-1) vs Eye Ballaz (3-1) 28-12 (Hemoglobin Trotters)
Boys League:
Last Thursday night was upperclassman night as both third year teams (including the third year girls) all picked up a victory, along with the fourth years. Team 2013A has won three straight since starting off (0-2) in the season as they went down to the wire in an extremely close game to pick up their 3rd victory.
Team 2015A called a timeout when no timeouts were left, giving 2013A two free throws that clinched the game, as there were only a few seconds remaining on the clock.
Team 2013B finally picked up their first win of the season. The game of the night was intense throughout the entire game. The FAPPS team - with no bench - continue to hold their own, as they picked up the victory in the last few minutes of the game to keep them the only team in the league undefeated.
Class of 2013A (3-2) v. Class of 2015A (1-4) 41-39 (2013A)
Class of 2015B (0-5) v. Class of 2013B (1-4) 66-47

Girls League:
Now that the girls have played five total games in the season, each team has a different record. Old Hags started the season off slow and now have turned up the heat with their tenacious defense picking up their second straight victory, showing everyone that age is just like a fine wine. The Hemoglobin Trotters continue dominating down low with help from their speedy guards.
Hemoglobin Trotters (4-1) vs Fighting Irises (1-4) 30-14 (Hemoglobin Trotters)
Eye Ballaz (3-2) vs Old Hags (2-3) 27-8 (Old Hags)
Boys League:
The FAPPS team has not been defeated in quite some time and they have finally taken a one in the loss column after being defeated by 2014B. FAPPS - again without any bench players and their point guard - kept the game close, but could not pull away with a miraculous comeback this time. Team 2015A had another heart breaking defeat as they lost the game yet again in the final seconds. Two games in a row 2015B called a timeout when none were left putting 2013B on the foul line who tied the game and brought it to overtime. Team 2013B used this momentum in overtime to come away with the victory. Team 2014A had quite the offensive night as five players had double digits in points and distributed the ball around where they had 29 assists as a team. The game of the night started off slow and then picked up as it got heated between some of the players. There were many lead changes throughout the game, but in the end Team 2012 got on a mini run, giving them their fourth victory of the season.
FAPSS (5-1) v. Class of 2014B (4-2) 59-55 (2014B)
Class of 2013B (2-4) v. Class of 2015A (1-5) 58-54 (2013B)

Class of 2013A (3-3) v. Class of 2012 (4-2) 43-33 (2012)
This has been the best week yet where seven players, each from a different team, have picked up a double-double in both points and rebounds: Andrew Williams (2012), Bryan Crosby (2013B), Igor Shigol (2015A), Keion Mark (2013A), Michael Bittner (2014A), Sergio Dilone (FAPPS) and Xavier Thompson (2014B).
Two players now hold 3threecolumns on the Leader Board: Andrew Apple (2012) and Kim Sor (FAPPS) while Matthew Wadas (2015B), Vittorio Mena (2014A) and Xavier Thompson (2014B) hold two columns each
Girls League:
Eye Ballaz went back to their winning ways, picking up a victory before heading into the playoffs. A potential championship game occurred between the Old Hags and Hemoglobin Trotters last Thursday night. The offense started pretty slowly for the Old Hags, as their tenacious defense kept Hemoglobin Trotters from running away with the score. During the second half the offense picked up, but it was not enough to defeat the Hemoglobin Trotters, as they picked up the #1 seed with a (5-1) overall record.
Eye Ballaz (4-2) vs Fighting Irises (1-5) 23-14 (Eye Ballaz)
Hemoglobin Trotters (5-1) vs Old Hags (2-4) 17-11 (Hemoglobin Trotters)
Boys League:
Dr. Sona Kalra made his debut last Thursday night, making some good contributions to his team (FAPPS), where he was one rebound shy of a double-double! Luckily he was there for the team, because without Dr. Mark Synder or Kim Sor, there would only have been four players, which would have had FAPPS playing without a bench yet again!
As FAPPS picked up the win they head into the playoffs with the #1 seed. Team 2014A had the same record as FAPPS, but in their head to head competition, FAPPS came away with the victory, giving Team 2014A the #2 seed.
The game of the night was truly the Team 2012 vs Team 2013B game, as it was extremely close until the very last few minutes. Team 2012 pulled away with a late run to clinch the #3 seed.
Class of 2013A (3-4) v. Class of 2014A (6-1) 57-37 (2014A)
Class of 2015A (1-6) v. FAPPS (6-1) 68-58 (FAPPS)
Class of 2012 (5-2) v. Class of 2013B (2-5) 49-43 (2012)
Class of 2014B (5-2) v. Class of 2015B (0-7) 51-41
Five players picked up a double-double in both points and rebounds: Sergio Dilone (FAPPS), Tyler Doersam (2014B), Joe Ozbold (2013A), Chris Richards (FAPPS) and Igor Shigol (2015A).
At the end of the regular season only two players held three columns on the leader board: Andrew Apple (2012) and Kim Sor (FAPPS), while two players held two columns: Vittorio Mena (2014A) and Xavier Thompson (2014B).
After the 1st round of the playoffs there were many scares for the top ranked teams!
Girls League:
To start us off the #4 seed Fighting Irises gave it their all to try to advance to the next round, where they even had a one point lead at halftime. With about one minute left in the game it was tied, but the Hemoglobin Trotters had other ideas, as they took the ball down low and got to the free throw line to clinch the win, giving them a sigh of relief! The Old Hags had no trouble Thursday night as they cruised their way to the championship game.
Hemoglobin Trotters (1-0) vs Fighting Irises (0-1) 14-11
Old Hags (1-0) vs Eye Ballaz (0-1) 27-3
Boys League:
Two players lit up the stage on Thursday night as Greg Leder (FAPPS) and Igor Shigol (2015A) both put up 29 points on the board. However, only one of the two was able to do enough to help their team advance to the next round. The #7 seed, Team 2015A gave the #2 seed, Team 2014A quite a scare, as 2014A was only up by three at halftime. Team 2014A finally settled in and picked up the pace as they advanced to the next round.
There was a nail bitter between both the #4 and #5 seeds. Team 2014B - without their point guard, Taylor Allard - had a lead throughout most of the game. Team 2013A continued to battle as they kept chipping away at the score. The ball went out of bounds with roughly four seconds left, keeping Team 2013A with the possession. Team 2014B fouled the player in the act of shooting as time expired, bringing Keion Mark (2013A) to the line. With the score tied and two free throws to go, Keion missed the first free throw, giving Team 2014B some life for a moment. With the game on the line and all eyes on Keion he swished the basket, defeating the #4 seed!
The rematch from a week ago was everything we expected it would be. The defense was intense, as three players fouled out trying to help their team any way possible to pick up the victory. Team 2013B did all they could to even up the series between the two teams but, unfortunately, it was not enough to head deep into the playoffs as they did last year. FAPPS finally played with a bench, as they had seven players at the game. The #8 seed, Team 2015B, gave a bit of a scare to the #1 seed, FAPPS, as 2015B cut their deficit to only four points with about two minutes left in the game. However, too much offense from Greg kept them from having an epic upset as the #1 seed – FAPPS - advances on.
2014A (1-0) vs 2015A (0-1): 73-50
2013A (1-0) vs 2014B (0-1): 33-32
2012 (1-0) vs 2013B (0-1): 43-38
FAPPS (1-0) vs 2015B (0-1) 53-46
As the competition stiffens up during the playoffs only 3 players picked up a double-double in both points and rebounds: Tyler Doersam (2014B), Igor Shigol (2015A) and (2015B).
Congratulations to this year’s Salus University Intramural Champions:
The women of the Hemoglobin Trotters, and the men of Team 2014A!!
The Games:
Girls League Championship Game:
It was everything we expected the championship game would be, as there were a few lead changes. The Old Hags once again started off slow in the first half and picked up the pace in the second half.

On both sides of the court the defense was tight and extremely intense. Old Hags came back from their deficit in the first half to tie up the game. As one minute approached on the clock the score was still tied, with everyone at the edge of their seat.
Both teams went to the foul line to shoot two. Hemoglobin Trotters hit both free throws leaving 15 seconds on the clock. Old Hags went down low and head to the line hitting only one of two. With only a few seconds left on the clock, the Old Hags were unable to recover the ball to get one last shot up, giving the Hemoglobin Trotters the victory!
Hemoglobin Trotters (2-0) vs Old Hags (1-1): 23-22
Boys League Championship Game:
Just like the girls’ championship game, it was everything one would expect to see. As the top two teams faced off it was a grueling match to the very end - where every possession and basket was crucial.

The FAPPS team playing without an injured Dr. Mark Snyder had a bit of a disadvantage until the very first minute of the game, where Michael Bittner (2014A) rolled his ankle grabbing a rebound and was sidelined for pretty much the rest of the game.
With no down low presence, it was going to be a tough task for 2014A to adjust to FAPPS’ big men. With only speed on their side now, 2014A decided to drive towards the basket continuously and worked their way to the free throw line getting FAPPS’ big men in potential foul trouble during the first half.
At the end of the half the FAPPS were up by one point, with a few players in foul trouble on either team. As the second half began, Greg Leder (FAPPS) continued to carry his team on his shoulders scoring a season high 35 points and giving his team a bit of a cushion as they went on a mini-run, going up eight points with six minutes left on the clock.
However, as foul trouble was an issue for the FAPPS, Kim Sor ended up fouling out of the game. Also, 2014A hit a bit of snag where they went scoreless - until Vittorio Mena (2014A) went lights out from behind the three point arc, hitting three-in-a-row, bringing his team back within striking distance.
Team 2014A’s Tim Whitmire and Vittorio Mena both scored 18 points each to counteract Greg’s solo performance. With roughly two minutes left on the clock, Team 2014A went on a run and FAPPS could not recover and get their three-peat, as 2014A came away the victory!
2014A (6-1; 3-0) vs FAPPS (6-1; 2-1): 69-63
Regular Season MVP: Kim Sor (FAPPS)
Playoffs Co-MVPs: Michael Bittner (2014A) and Vittorio Mena (2014A)
Each MVP Winner will receive a $20 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods for their achievements this season!
The Athletic Committee would like to thank Dr. Sona Kalra and The Eye Care Center for sponsoring the Salus University Basketball league. Thanks to all the fans that came out to support all the teams this year!!!
We also would like to bid farewell and good luck to the Class of 2012 and our second year PA students in their future careers!
As for everyone else, until next year and thank you for tuning in this season!
