Students and faculty from the University’s Osborne College of Audiology (OCA) participated in this year’s annual CHOP Audiology Seminar. The theme this year focused on “Fostering Wellness.” In addition to Salus students and faculty, pediatric audiologists, educational audiologists, speech therapists and teachers of the hearing impaired participated. According to Dr. Jenny Rajan, OCA assistant professor, educational lecture topics included “Promoting self-determination for teens with hearing loss,” and “Developing social competence in children with hearing loss.”
The key note speaker was Dr. Mary Ellen Nivens, director of the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, who urged the audience to think about their purpose when working with children and their families. The day also included challenging grand rounds cases which all included collaboration with behavioral health specialists. Participants also had an opportunity to tour the new CHOP audiology clinic and to meet with manufacturer representatives on the exhibit floor.
