At an alumni and friends reception held on July 8, Maureen Duffy, MS ’90, CVRT, was presented with the inaugural Salus University Blindness and Low Vision Studies Alumna of the Year Award. Ms. Duffy has dedicated over 17 years to building the Vision Rehabilitation Therapy program (VRT) at the University, as well as educating students and vision rehabilitation professionals across the country.
The reception opened with warm remarks from Salus president, Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, and Dr. Audrey Smith, dean of the College of Education and Rehabilitation, where they congratulated Ms. Duffy on her remarkable accomplishment and thanked her for her groundbreaking efforts in the field of blindness and low vision studies.
In her nomination letter, Lachelle Smith, MS, CVRT, director of the VRT program at Salus University, noted that Ms. Duffy continues to serve as one of the University’s recognized professional leaders in the field. “Her constant dedication to this institution’s VRT program and the blindness and low vision profession overall is inspiring, and leaves a legacy of excellence to those who follow her lead,” said Smith.
In a letter to Duffy, The American Foundation for the Blind wrote, “Your contributions to the field of blindness and low vision are remarkable. We have benefitted significantly from the work you’ve done through your blog, excellent writing and editorial skills. We thank you for your work.”
