Occupational Therapy: Living Life to its Fullest

(AOTA), “Occupational Therapy: Living Life To Its Fullest™,” now is the perfect time to showcase how the University’s Occupational Therapy (OT) students are sharpening their specialty skills within their profession. Join us throughout April to celebrate National OT Month, learn more about our students and the University’s OT program. This year’s celebration is even more special, as the profession turns 100. In honor of OT Month, current students’ share what has led them to the career paths they are pursuing today, what stands out about this field, and why they “chose Salus.”

"I wanted the opportunity to be hands-on while helping others. OT seemed like the perfect fit because your are teaching practical life skills and looking at the person holistically. There's a variety of jobs, including those working with children with special needs, as well as others who are recovering from an illness or injury. I believe being an OT is the type of job I would love doing everyday."

"I chose OT because my sister received OT services during our childhood, so I was the younger sibling in the waiting room fascinated by the sensory gym, toys and activities - it all looked so fun! I was amazed how playing could be therapeutic. I knew I wanted to choose a profession that would allow me to use my creativity skills, and help children and families reach their fullest potential in a holistic way. OT showed myself and my family that anything is possible, and I strive to continue the legacy!"

"I can remember when I first became interested in the profession - I was volunteering at a summer camp and I observed an OT working with persons with developmental disabilities. I have always had a love for serving others, but it was at that time that I realized I could enter a profession which would allow me to do just that. As a future OT, I will be able to empower others to help themselves."
