Audiology Summer Workshops at Salus University

Summer at Salus University means Summer Workshops, presented by the University's Osborne College of Audiology (OCA). Two four-day workshops and one day-long workshop will be given with three goals: providing updates on a specific topic of study, reviewing clinical implications, and providing hands-on training using new tools and techniques. Each workshop will be co-led by a Salus faculty member who is distinguished in their field.

First up is the Diagnosis and Management of External and Middle Ear Function. Duo James Hall III, PhD, and Lisa L. Hunter, PhD, FAAA will take the lead for the first three days of this workshop, which will take place from July 22 to 24. Dr. Hall is an adjunct professor of Audiology at Salus University and has been published in many medical journals for his work and research in audiology and speech pathology. Dr. Hunter is the scientific director of research, division of audiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and is a professor of otolaryngology and communication sciences and disorders at the University of Cincinnati. She has more than 25 years of pediatric clinical, research and teaching experience, and has authored a variety of published articles, chapters and books. Martin Pienkowski, PhD, associate professor at OCA, will also be presenting at this workshop.

The fourth day of this first unique continuing education oriented event is a day-long workshop, Cerumen Management, on July 25, which is also available with its own one-day registration. Participants will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the ear involved with cerumen management, lighting options, specialty tools, post-procedure problems and more. This part of the workshop will be led by both Jiovanne Hughart, AuD and Jonette Owen, AuD. Dr. Hughart teaches the practice management sequence along with cerumen management course at OCA as an adjunct faculty and also is a nationally renowned audiologist practicing in Georgia. Dr. Owen is assistant dean for the Practice and Assessment of Audiologic Medicine and assistant professor at OCA.

AAA and ASHA continuing education credits will be offered pending approval. Workshops are open to current audiology practitioners, educators, and clinicians.
