All Bridges Lead to Communicative Success: 2018 PSHA Convention

SLP faculty at conferenceRobert Serianni, MS, CCC-SLP, clinical director of the Speech-Language Institute, and Patricia Martin Mayro, MA, CCC-SLP clinical instructor in the University’s Speech-Language Pathology program, both presented and exhibited at the 2018 Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association (PSHA) convention in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 21 – 24.

PSHA is a professional organization of speech-language pathologists, audiologists and teachers of the hearing impaired. The organization provides information about effective programs and services in communication disorders and other fields. It also works to inform the public about the profession, careers, programs and services within the field of communication disorders.

Serianni and Mayro presented Developing Knowledge and Skills in Clinical Education for Practitioners which was well-received. The presentation will be extended to the development of a working group of PSHA members who will explore the needs for training in clinical education for practitioners across Pennsylvania. The development of the working group is part of a project established by Mayro as a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Leadership Development Program 2017.

SLP faculty at conferenceThis year’s convention’s theme was All Bridges Lead to Communicative Success! and featured 13 renowned speakers ranging from director of Hearing and Speech Research at Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C. to professors from universities across the country.

The keynote speaker at the Annual Awards Luncheon was Shari Robertson, ASHA’s president-elect, who also presented three sessions on a variety of topics including dealing with difficult people, morphology and reading comprehension.
