Salus University Welcomes New Faculty Members

Two of the University’s clinical facilities - The Eye Institute (TEI) and the Speech-Language Institute (SLI) - recently welcomed new faculty.

Alan Kabat, OD, FAAO provides both clinical and didactic education to both Optometry students and residents in addition to conducting clinical research. While his expertise is in ocular disease and anterior segment disorders, he also provides patient care in both the primary care and dry eye specialty services at The Eye Institute (TEI) of Salus University’s main Oak Lane location. Dr. Kabat graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Science. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and completed his residency training at Philadelphia’s John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, a former PCO affiliated residency site. Prior to coming to TEI, Dr. Kabat served as a faculty member at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and as a professor at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.

Nicholas Karbach, OD provides patient care in the primary care services at both TEI’s Oak Lane and East Falls locations. Dr. Karbach received his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry. In 2018, he completed his residency at TEI with a focus in ocular disease.

Patrick McManamon, OD provides care in the contact lens service at TEI’s Oak Lane location. Dr. McManamon graduated from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa., with his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2017 and completed his cornea and contact lens residency at TEI the following year. In 2017, he was recognized with the Johnson & Johnson Award of Excellence in Contact Lens Patient Care.

The Speech-Language Institute (SLI) recently welcomed Kimberly Edmonds, MS, CCC-SLPand Joanne Vesay, PhD, CCC-SLP as clinical educators. Both currently oversee Speech-Language Pathology students in the University’s College of Education and Rehabilitation as they work with clients at SLI.

Edmonds earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her master's degree in Communication Disorders from Arizona State University. Bilingual in Spanish, she has worked with children and families from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. 

Edmonds also has experience in a variety of clinical settings including public schools, birth to age three programs, pre-school early intervention, and pediatric medical facilities. In addition to her work as a clinical educator at SLI, Edmonds also works as an independent contractor performing bilingual speech-language evaluations in the Philadelphia region

Dr. Vesay earned her Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Penn State University and her Doctor of Philosophy in Education from George Mason University in Virginia.  

In addition to her work as a clinical educator at SLI, Dr. Vesay also operates Monarch Pediatric Tx LLC - a private practice where she provides services as an independent contractor conducting initial and annual evaluations for children ranging in age from birth to three-years-old in Bucks County, Pa.
