Edward Hueber receiving an awardMany people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University.  Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.

At the Centennial Gala Celebration on April 27, 2019, additional alumni, faculty, and friends will be honored.

Edward Hueber, BA (Yale University, ’47)

A longtime supporter of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO), Edward Hueber served on the Board of Trustees from 1981 to 2005 and remained active as a member of the institutional advancement committee. Born in Philadelphia, he graduated from Lower Merion High School and studied for two years at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the United States Navy.  He earned a bachelor’s in philosophy from Yale University in 1947.

Edward HueberIn 1984, he was awarded the Pennsylvania College of Optometry Distinguished Service Medal. He served for two terms as President of the Optical Manufacturers Association and director of Gentex Optics.  

Following retirement, he travelled extensively to central and South America to introduce the concept of safety products to the major manufacturing industries. He was also director of the Stone Harbor Realty Association and was an emeritus trustee of Salus University. He passed away in his home on June 10, 2016 at the age of 95.
