Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.
At the Centennial Gala Celebration on April 27, 2019, additional alumni, faculty, and friends will be honored.
Dr. A. Michael “Gus” Iatesta served on the College Board of Trustees in the 1980s and as chairman from 1986 to 1989. He was the last optometrist to serve as chairman and during his tenure the Pennsylvania College of Optometry Graduate Programs in Blindness and Low Vision with Master of Science and a Master of Education degree programs were established. Additionally, the College initiated its affiliation with Hahnemann University, and the Irving Bennett Business and Practice Management Center opened.
In 1997 the Alumni Association named him the Albert Fitch Alumnus of the Year. Always generous to the College and University, Dr. Iatesta established an endowed scholarship fund in 1986. Dr. Iatesta was also the Class of 1952’s only class representative, holding that office until his death.
Dr. Iatesta passed away in February 2016.
