Tour of Dr. Albert Fitch’s Home
Here’s a throwback “tour” of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry’s (PCO) and first president, Dr. Albert Fitch’s home located at 69th Street and Lawnton Avenue in Philadelphia. The house was built in 1925, and was about a mile from “Old Main” campus in Oak Lane. Dr. Fitch lived there with his wife, Florence until his death at the age of 80 in 1960. They also had four children while living at the home, a daughter named Florence, and four sons, Lawrence (appointed as president of PCO after his father), in addition to Roy and Albert. Dr. Fitch often hosted luncheons at his home for female PCO students, as most men were fighting in the war. Some female students also lived on the third floor of the residence.
