Salus University’s Physician Assistant Studies Program has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
The funding will help renovate two, 50-seat traditional lecture style classrooms into collaborative learning environments, update the clinical skills lab and construct a patient assessment simulation lab.
“The grant will enable the University to continue to provide a dynamic, world-class training that allows our students to fully appreciate the intricacies of providing comprehensive and complex patient care in a fully controlled environment,” said University president Dr. Michael H. Mittelman. “They will be better providers having experienced this type of training.”
State Rep. Steve McCarter, (D-Montgomery), made the announcement of the grant in early August.
“This project will help develop Pennsylvania’s health care delivery team by preparing graduates to be physician assistants,” said McCarter.
“The program is grateful to the Commonwealth and to all who advocated for the grant’s approval,” said Donna Agnew, MSPAS, PA-C, DFAAPA, director of the Physician Assistant (PA) program. “The funding will afford students greater opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for their entry-level clinical practice.”
RACP is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are state-funded and cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
