DEI Forum on Healing
A Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Forum titled “Processing, Healing and Progressing After the Verdict” was held April 22 via WebEx.
It featured Lisa Croft, DO, a board-certified physician for nearly 30 years and a private company medical director, who shared personal perspectives and how these traumatic events surrounding the murder of George Floyd impacted our work in healthcare. A second speaker, Jaison Freeman, PhD, Chestnut Hill College assistant professor of psychology, also shared personal perspectives and how faculty can assist in facilitating difficult dialogue around these events in the classroom/clinical setting.
Speech-Language and Audiology Open House
The University’s Osborne College of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology held a virtual open house April 24 providing participants an opportunity to connect and engage with current students and renowned faculty, tour the campus and state-of-the-art clinical facilities, and learn to navigate the application process all from the comfort of their home.
With a Doctor of Audiology degree, graduates leave Salus with more than 2,500 clinical hours in patient-care settings and enter a profession with an expected growth rate of 29 percent. The program has a three-year employment average of 97 percent and is still the only College in the nation with the largest on-campus program.
Speech-Language Pathologists were recently ranked No. 7 on the U.S. News and World Report’s “100 Best Jobs” list with a median salary of more than $78,000. Graduates with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology have several professional options, including hospitals, public and private schools, rehabilitation facilities and private practices.
Vaccination Opportunity
The University continues to assist the Salus community in vaccination efforts.
Yorktown Pharmacy provided vaccinations at the Hafter Student Community Center on April 28. Those interested were required to complete a survey that allowed the pharmacy to ensure it had enough vaccines on hand without leaving any unused to spoil.
