Recent Audiology Graduate Making an Impact in Ecuador
Luz Figueroa, MSCA ‘22, is making her mark in her native Ecuador. She works in a private clinic with ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists and can practice in many areas of audiology, including pediatric audiology, vestibular, clinical audiology, hearing conservation and preservation and electrophysiology assessment. According to Figueroa, the University’s Osborne College of Audiology (OCA) provided a critical foundation on which to advance her career and pursue her goals. Read more here.
Reader’s Digest Grant for Internships
The University’s Orientation and Mobility (O&M) program recently received a grant from the Reader's Digest Partners for Sight Foundation to support their internship programs. According to Jamie Maffit, MS, COMS, CLVT, RYT, director of the O&M program, there are a lot of “firsts” associated with the grant. It’s not only the first time the program has received this grant; but it’s the first time the program has had full-time O&M services at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center, which is housed at The Eye Institute (TEI); and it’s the first time the program has supported full-time O&M interns at Salus. Commencement, a Day of Pride, Relief for Class of 2022
When Morgan Dukes, MS ‘22, was in middle school, her aunt Lachelle Smith, MS ‘04, MS, CRVT, planted the seed that Salus University would be a great place for Dukes to continue her education. And, ever since then, Dukes said, Smith, the director of the University’s Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) program in the department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies (BLVS), had been tugging at her to go to Salus. Well, all that auntly influence finally paid off, as Dukes graduated with a master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility at the University’s 125th commencement ceremony on Oct. 13, 2022, at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Optometry Student Accepted into the “Visioning the Future” Program
Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus University student Makayla Cain, PBHS ‘21, ‘26OD, has been busy since completing the University’s Post-baccalaureate in Health Sciences and Summer Enrichment (SEP) programs. Cain entered PCO/Salus this fall more prepared than ever, as all of her hard work culminated in pursuing her dream profession of optometry and a new exciting opportunity with the National Optometric Association (NOA). She was recently accepted into the NOA’s Visioning the Future program, which identifies African American students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), to facilitate their professional development and career advancement in optometry. NBC10’s Johnny Archer to Co-Host 2022 ‘Looking Out For Kids’ Fundraiser
Salus University is excited to announce Johnny Archer, reporter and anchor for NBC10, as the host for the 15th annual ‘Looking Out for Kids’ (LOFK) charity fundraiser being held this Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Read more about him here.
Since 2007, LOFK has helped provide funding for the University’s school vision programs, and recently expanded its services to support additional healthcare for children in need. Each year, thousands of vision screenings are provided to disadvantaged and underinsured children in the Philadelphia area, including comprehensive eye examinations and two pairs of eyeglasses for those who fail their vision screenings. LOFK also supports the Pennsylvania Ear Institute’s pediatric hearing screening and hearing aid loaner programs.
