Faculty Focus: Betsy O’Donnell

After a career of teaching Orientation and Mobility, which included a 20-year stint in the Blindness and Low Vision Studies (BLVS) department at Salus University, Betsy O’Donnell, MS ‘86, COMS, CLVT, TVI, had retired. But a teaching opportunity in the BLVS program recently presented itself and it was an offer she couldn’t refuse. Read more about O’Donnell’s journey back to Salus here

Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus SalusTakes  Center Stage at 2022 Academy 

Held from Oct. 26-29 at the San Diego Convention Center, PCO/Salus faculty were well represented during the four days of lectures, poster presentations and exhibits at the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) meeting. Fifteen PCO/Salus faculty presented posters, there were four new AAO fellows, 14 faculty members gave presentations, two faculty members gave symposium lectures, two faculty members delivered Grand Rounds and six residents had posters. Where Are They Now: Healey Miller

Healey Miller, MSOT ‘21, ‘23OTD, focuses on people. But after coming out of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she was wondering what career path she was going to take. She recalled during her undergraduate experience that a woman who spoke in one of her classes was training to be an occupational therapist (OT), and the rest is history. The Stars Came Out for the 15th Annual LOFK Fundraiser

“The work that Looking Out for Kids (LOFK) does is more important than a lot of people realize,” said Donald Smith, OD ‘76. “Sometimes we forget that a simple pair of glasses can change someone’s life. We here at National Vision could not be more aligned with the goals and mission of Salus University and LOFK.”

The LOFK initiative provides vision and hearing services to children living in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in the Greater Philadelphia area. To learn more about the event and initiative, click here

Salus, Drexel International Students Share Cultural Connections

Salus Master of Science in Clinical Optometry (MSCO) 2023 international students spent a recent autumn morning hiking along the Wissahickon Park trails with other international students from Drexel University’s English Language Center (ELC).
