Seeing her hometown area code pop up on her phone, Kelsi Jones, OD, ‘23Resident, assumed it must be a hometown acquaintance trying to reach her. Answering the call, the other line was not a familiar friend, but rather Seidenberg Protzko Eye Associates in Havre de Grace, Maryland, which is located close to her home, offering her a primary care/ocular disease residency.
In the words of Dr. Jones, “the rest is history.”
Seven months into her affiliated residency through the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus University, “every day has been a learning experience. For one patient I’m thinking about binocular vision, and for the next patient I have to switch my thinking cap to anterior segment pathologies,” she said. “My experience is developing my thinking-on-my-feet optometry skills and really encompasses every sub-specialty I was taught in school. I believe this will prepare me for any patient that walks in my office no matter the complexity.”
Dr. Jones entered into the optometry profession after working as an optometric assistant for three years. After that experience, she enrolled in optometry school at the University of the Incarnate World Rosenberg, where she would meet her current best friend, as well as establish lifelong relationships with her optometric colleagues.
Although she returned home to Maryland for her residency, as she nears completion of her program, Dr. Jones would love to return back to the Houston Galveston area, which she fell in love with during optometry school. She hopes in Texas she can partner with an optometrist or MD and build their own eye clinic to serve the community.
