Obialo Osigwe, OD, ‘25PhD, MPH ‘18, FNOA, has received the Award of Fellow by the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA). The designation is bestowed on optometrists of “impeccable character” who have been found to be of immense service to both the association and profession.
This is the highest distinction given by the NOA. Dr. Osigwe received the award at a ceremony, July 22, 2023, in Nigeria. “Moving forward, this award will spur me on to do more with my skills to serve humanity and the profession in any situation I find myself in the future,” he said.
Dr. Osigwe is the chief optometrist and clinical instructor at Imo State University Owerri Nigeria, in which he is responsible for supervising students’ optometry skills and practice prior to graduation.
He received his Master of Public Health degree from Salus in 2018, which encouraged him to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biomedicine at the University as well. He said the interaction he has had with faculty and staff at Salus was the best he had experienced in his academic career.
“From here, I hope to impart this knowledge in my local community, train researchers in the field and add to the body of my existing knowledge,” said Dr. Osigwe. “Studying at Salus has been a great experience for me. The staff and students always have constructive feedback at every level of study and mentors spend time with students to direct them as well. I would recommend Salus to anyone looking for objective and qualitative post-graduation studies.”
