Students Set Sail Aboard Spirit of Philadelphia for the 2023 Salus Soirée

They say loose lips sink ships. But what about loose hips dancing to great music and more than a hundred Salus University graduate and professional students eating awesome food and celebrating together on a dinner cruise? That sounds like this year’s Salus Soireé held Friday, Nov. 10, aboard the Spirit of Philadelphia.

salus-soiree23-pic3“Salus Soirée continues to be a success year after year and this one equally did not disappoint,” said Monae Kelsey, director of Student Engagement. “There is just an energy that comes out from the students once they get on the Spirit of Philadelphia. It was nice to see them eat well, dance well, and my favorite part of this year, dress well! Many of the students who came in the Bridgerton theme really knocked it out of the park!”

Salus students and their guests set sail from Penn’s Landing at 7 p.m. in their formal attire to cruise around the Delaware River in style. Over the next four hours, the Spirit of Philadelphia and its staff provided a unique dining, dancing, and entertainment experience for students, who earned a much-needed break from their studies just before finals began.

Salus students not only enjoyed the festivities of the evening, some also had a major role in planning the event. The University’s Campus Activities Committee booked the special experience and handled logistics leading up to the event itself. Even during the cruise, they remained cognizant of their responsibilities for the night. But by that time, most of the work had been done and it was time to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

“I'm very grateful that this year I had a dedicated group of students working with me to make this year's soirée a success,” said Hero Seto ‘25AUD, vice president of Student Council and chair of the Campus Activities Committee. “Coming back from COVID, we really wanted to encourage our students to come out and have a good time with us because last year the pandemic still presented some barriers to being able to go out safely.” According to Seto, organizers for the successful event received positive feedback on both attendees enjoying the night and appreciating the committee’s efforts.

No masks required this year. No vaccination cards needed. No angst about COVID-related cancellations or logistical problems. Just a night of enjoying Top 40 hits and old school favorites while gazing at the Philadelphia skyline with friends and classmates.

Sounds pretty perfect. Sounds like another successful Salus Soirée in the books!
