To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Osborne Audiology, we are revisiting stories of the Alumni Association's Alumni of the Year Award winners.
Amanda Marchegiani, AuD ‘10, was instrumental in creating and establishing the Audiology Alumnus of the Year Award while serving on the Salus University Alumni Association board. She never imagined she would one day be the recipient of the award she helped create.
“I am profoundly humbled and honored to receive the Audiology Alumnus of the Year award. I stand on the shoulders of giants, those who came before me. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to be mentored by those giants in the audiology profession,” said Dr. Marchegiani in 2023 when she received the award. “While collaborating to create this award in 2012, never in a million years did I think I would be chosen. It's really a full circle moment for me.”
In 2011, Dr. Marchegiani began her first year of service on the Alumni Association Board. Although unsure of her level of readiness at the time, she was encouraged to apply by Tomi Browne, AuD ‘04, a previous alumni board member and 2015 recipient of the Alumni Association’s Audiology Alumna of the Year award. “I didn’t think I was ready, but I appreciated her encouragement and support,” said Dr. Marchegiani.
She worked her way through the ranks of the alumni board, serving as secretary, treasurer, vice president, and eventually president. In addition to her involvement at Salus University, Dr. Marchegiani also served on the American Academy of Audiology Foundation Board of Trustees from 2019-2022 and was named the Osborne College of Audiology (OCA) Professor of the Year in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2024. “It has been a joy to serve in such a way where together, with students, we can have an impact on our profession,” she said.
Giving back is not just part of her life - it's her way of life. Outside of her work in audiology, she co-founded a non-profit organization in 2012. The Nadine Cenci Marchegiani Foundation (NCMF) was organized in memory of her mother to carry on her indomitable spirit. NCMF is 100 percent volunteer-run organization and helps individuals with illnesses, contributes to food banks, supports students through a scholarship, and assists in the development of a library.
Dr. Marchegiani practices as an audiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a clinical educator in the University’s Osborne College of Audiology. She volunteers as a healthy hearing clinical director for Special Olympics. She credits her experience at Salus for the advancement of her professional career. As a student, Dr. Marchegiani had the opportunity to work with pediatric audiologists in a clinical setting, which allowed her to have conversations about their experiences and envision what a future as a pediatric audiologist could look like. She describes the mentorship she received from OCA faculty as “invaluable.”
She also emphasized the importance of the entire Salus community in her professional journey in addition to the Audiology faculty. “I am deeply thankful for the people that nominated me, I am humbled and honored to receive this award,” she said. “I have benefitted from the mentorship of many and hope I can continue to do the same for the future of our profession.”
