Dana Mattingly Joins Salus Board of Trustees

At her first Salus University Board of Trustees meeting in January 2022, new board member Dana L. Mattingly, RN, was energized by the interactions among fellow board members and the relevant questions being asked.

“Going into my first board meeting, I thought I was prepared and knew a lot about Salus,” she said. “I didn’t realize some of the deeper services that we have.”

Dana MattinglyMattingly is executive director of clinical compliance in the Aetna/CVS healthcare business unit based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. And, it was that Harrisburg connection that led to Mattingly joining the board. She and current board president Rebecca Delia have served on various Harrisburg-area boards together in the past. Delia approached Mattingly about possibly joining the Salus board, and that led to a meeting between Mattingly and Salus president Michael Mittelman, OD ‘80, MPH, MBA, FAAO, FACHE.

“I got the business plan and then met with Dr. Mittelman and the whole atmosphere felt like it was right for me,” she said. “I think my experience in health services and business is a good blend. This does make sense for me right now. The timing worked out really well.”

Mattingly has a Bachelor of Science degree from Rosemont College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She also has a nursing degree from Harrisburg Area Community College.

Mattingly believes Salus has the opportunity to spread its vision and become what she calls “a world campus.”

“It’s a different way of thinking and we need to learn how to get there,” she said. “So what I learned at that first board session was that everyone is open to that and everyone is excited about taking Salus to the next level, keeping that world-class view and getting that world campus going.”

The energy and commitment of the board members about expansion left an impression on Mattingly and encouraged her that the University’s future, while challenging, is bright.

“Under Dr. Mittelman’s leadership, I think the sky is the limit,” she said. “I’m excited about being part of this group. We’re committed to getting our graduates out there and spreading the wings of Salus.”

For his part, Dr. Mittelman is thrilled to have Mattingly on the board.

“The depth of experiences she brings from her healthcare background will clearly help us to navigate the very choppy waters ahead,” he said.
