Third-year Doctor of Optometry students braved the sub-freezing temperatures and dressed to the nines on Thursday evening, January 31 to attend the Class of 2020’s EyeBall - an evening for socializing and dancing for the third year class only.
Held at the Blue Bell Country Club, the masquerade themed evening included sushi and a buffet-style dinner with a s’mores bar set up for dessert for the students to enjoy.
A slideshow with submitted photos from the students’ past three years at the University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry played in the background while those same students danced the night away. A raffle including prizes such as Ray Ban sunglasses and gift cards topped off the night. Winners were announced throughout the night for “Most Likely to Advance Optometric Research” (Andrew Pisetzner ‘20OD) and “Happiest to Be Your Guinea Pig for Clinical Skills” (Nikhil Bansal ‘20OD).
“It was a good turn out, and overall was a fun night,” said Niki Mehta ‘20OD.
The event is a traditional celebration put on by the class student council that marks the end of the students’ time on campus and in the classroom before heading off campus for additional clinical and specialty externships. The event itself couldn’t have gone better,” said Mercedes Smith ‘20OD, who is a member of the student council and helped organize the event. “After a swanky cocktail hour, we dined, posed for pictures, and danced all night.” The whole event was planned by OD 2020 Class Council with help from Monae Kelsey, associate director of Student Engagement/Assistant director of Admissions. Jacquie Patterson, director of Major Gifts in the Institutional Advancement Department assisted in arranging generous sponsorships from Luxottica and Allergan.
