Professional Activities/Awards:
Dr. Barresi has a distinguished 30-year optometric career as a practitioner, clinical teacher, lecturer, academic administrator, business and health care executive. He was vice president and dean of academic affairs at the State University of New York, State College of Optometry, and founding director of the school's Center for Vision Care Policy. At Southern California College of Optometry, he was director of outreach programs. He was president and chief executive officer of Partner Provider Health Inc., the national managed care and disease management subsidiary of TLCVision for four years.
He was the Vice President, Clinical Affairs, New England College of Optometry, New England Eye Institute, Inc. He served as Chief executive officer of the American Optometric Association from 2008 to 2014; Executive Director of Optometry Care – Foundation of the AOA (501(c)6 entity) which operates multiple charitable purpose programs; and founding CEO of AOAExcel, Inc., a wholly owned for profit subsidiary of the American Optometric Association which operates financial business and clinical support services for practicing optometrists across the United States. Dr. Barresi is currently Chief Medical Informatics Officer (April 2016 to present) and Founder and CEO (March 2014 to April 2016) of OcuHub LLC (2014-present), a health care information technology company.
He has received the 1992 Spiro Prize, Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University Best Written Work for the Doctoral Dissertation; and the Benjamin Franklin Society Award. New York City, May 21, 1995, conferred by State College of Optometry, State University of New York, for service to enhance the academic excellence and process of faculty development and enhancement of academic standing of the State College of Optometry, State University of New York; the Harris Nussenblatt Memorial Lectureship 1994 University of Houston, School of Optometry; the Editors Award, Best National Newsletter, Optometric Editors Association, June 1987; and the New York United University Professions, Faculty Development Award, Fall 1985.
