Hi, my name is Madison Pisut and I am an incoming student in the Speech-Language Pathology program here at Salus. Finding the perfect graduate program can be overwhelming, especially when it plays such an integral part in your future career as a professional. Before starting the application process to graduate school, I had a million questions and nobody to answer them. While doing some research, I stumbled across the Salus website and found its “I Chose Salus” series. Little did I know that this little snippet of what guided these individuals to Salus would play a huge role in my desire to attend the graduate program. For this reason, I am here to tell you my personal journey that led me to choose Salus.

When comparing different graduate programs, I was advised to make a pros and cons list. After making these lists, it became clear that Salus was my top program. Salus made sure every prospective student knew that success was its number one priority and that it was obtainable with the many unique features of the program.

One distinctive feature that stood out to me was the early clinical exposure with the on-campus clinical facility, the Speech-Language Institute (SLI). Despite the fact that this brought on feelings of nervousness, I knew that it was important for me to gain this experience in order to be the well-rounded professional that I aim to be. In addition, Salus has many externship opportunities to ensure that each student gets experience in multiple settings. This stood out to me because even though my mind is set on working with pediatrics in a medical setting, it is beneficial for speech-language pathologists to be able to work in diverse settings with diverse populations and still deliver high-quality service. Lastly, the location of Salus is prime. Salus is right outside of Philadelphia, so there are many opportunities to interact with people in the area, gain exposure in the field, and find externship possibilities.

Although these academic-based attributes are significant to me, the thing that sealed the deal for me was the community. I was extremely nervous for my interview but those nerves were calmed within minutes of chatting with the faculty. The staff I have met thus far at Salus are extremely personable and have guided me through every step of confusion along the way. These aspects have only solidified my decision to choose Salus University and I am very excited to embark on this journey that will provide me with everything I need in order to be Madison Pisut, MS, CCC-SLP!
