Erin Cleaver, Occupational Therapy

Why did you choose Salus?

Hi! My name is Erin Cleaver and I am a first-year student in the master's of Occupational Therapy program here at Salus. I currently live in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania which is around 45 minutes from campus, but it is nice only having to commute two days a week. I received my undergraduate degree at West Chester University and a Bachelor of Science degree in both Exercise Science and Psychology.

Erin CleaverWhen I began looking at graduate schools, the most important factor to me was being able to commute. No matter where I went, I knew it was going to be pricey, so being able to live at home and save money was huge. Not only was I able to do this with Salus, but they were also on the lower end of expenses when comparing graduate schools.

I also loved Salus from my research on how small the campus and school were in general. I knew that I would easily be able to meet people and make connections with my professors. I got to Salus and my predictions could not have been more true. Adjusting to campus was very easy and all of the faculty and fellow students were so welcoming. It was also so easy to get involved in campus life, and I am currently the treasurer of the University's National Perinatal Association Student Society (NPASS) chapter.

During my interview, I met with Sharon Marcy, who is an instructor in the department of occupational therapy (OT). As a person, I tend to believe in signs and the fact that I interviewed with her, to me, was a sign out of the rest of the occupational therapy departments. Not only was Sharon very kind and made me feel comfortable, but we also made a connection in that we both did color guard in high school. This is something that I did not think I would be able to relate to a faculty member on, but having that hobby in common gave me a sense of ease. Sharon is also a pediatric OT working in a preschool with children who have behavioral challenges. Going into OT school, that is exactly what I wanted to do. These were the two signs from the interview that showed me I should attend Salus.

For me, Salus ticked every one of my boxes. The location, size, expenses, faculty and students all made Salus my top choice.
