Why did you choose Salus?
Hello everyone! My name is Dena Mohamed and I am a first-year Optometry student at Salus University. I was born and raised in New Jersey, but my parents are Egyptian. I received my Bachelor of Biology degree with a minor in Arabic at Montclair State University. After my undergrad, I took two gap years, in which I worked in the microbiology industry. With my experiences and the help and support of my mom, I was able to step out of my comfort zone and apply to optometry school and pursue my true passion.
What piqued my interest more about Salus was when I had the opportunity to speak with current Salus ambassadors and hear about their amazing experiences here. One of the many reasons I want to become part of the “Salus Strong'' family is that I will gain early exposure to clinical experience. This was an important factor in my decision to move to Philadelphia to earn my OD degree. As someone with a diverse background, having an opportunity to learn about optometry in one of the most diverse cities was an amazing opportunity.
While I was doing my research about which schools to apply to, I immediately fell in love with the campus and how beautiful it was. I was very pretty seeing the technology and how the Clinical Skills lab was set up with advanced technology that I would see in optometrists' offices. I knew that Salus would be the school that would help me advance my career.
