My name is Emaree Stone. I am a first-year Optometry student in the traditional program. A typical day in life is pretty busy, even though all the work is done from home on most days.
I usually wake up around 7 a.m., get ready and prepare for the day. I start around 8 a.m. watching lectures and go until at least 5 p.m. After that I go to the gym at either my apartment complex or the Hafter Center. This is my favorite part of the day because it allows me to unwind for an hour or two. Afterward, I come home and eat dinner and begin to study any material I may have covered that day. If there are no quizzes or exams in the upcoming days, I type and annotate notes to get ahead in as many classes as I can.
For example, about four days out of the week I have this exact schedule, with maybe an hour or two difference of when I start or finish watching lectures for the day. However, my Tuesdays are much different. I start the day a little later and spend the first few hours reviewing notes. Then in the afternoon, I have Clinical Skills lab. This allows me to go on campus and spend about two hours going over new skills and reviewing old ones as preparation for future practical. These days run a little longer since I have to spend more time after lab reviewing what I learned for the day and making notes on the new skills and techniques I was taught.
Overall, although my schedule is hectic, I would not want it any other way. I love getting to spend my days doing what I always dreamed of having the opportunity to do. The work we do is hard, but where there is no sacrifice, there is also no reward.
