Why did you choose Salus?

Choosing what optometry school to attend can be a challenging decision. It isn't like an undergraduate school where your priorities are checking out the food in the cafeteria. Now, your concerns are national board pass rates, technology, and resources, as well as the facilities themselves. When making my decision about what school I wanted to attend, Salus stood out for many reasons: the latest technology for students' success, high national board pass rates, a plethora of clinical experience opportunities, as well as the location just outside of Philadelphia.

Alexis Bonenfant outside SalusSalus has some of the best technology in their clinical facilities to help students master their clinical skills. Salus provides students in the Optometry program access to equipment including VRmagic, a virtual reality simulation lab allowing students to practice direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, an essential skill to be able to perform as an optometrist. I interviewed with many other schools, none of which gave their students access to these tools, as well as meeting the dean of the Optometry program prior to enrollment. Dr. Melissa Trego, dean of Optometry, has a very personalized approach to the program here at Salus as well as in her current role as president of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO).

Salus University’s Optometry program has very high national board exam scores. It’s great that as a student you passed all your classes and graduated, but to practice as an optometrist it is essential to pass the three-part National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) exams.

The externship opportunities are continuously growing; currently, there are over 260 clinical rotation sites that are affiliated with Salus. These opportunities are great ways to broaden students' experiences in different geographical areas as well as with different patient populations.

At Salus, it has been made possible for students to learn pertinent information to our field of study from students in the following specialties including Audiology, Blindness and Low Vision Studies, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Physician Assistant Studies, Orthotics & Prosthetics, as well as Biomedicine. A great way to meet other students in different professional programs at Salus.

All applicants struggle in one aspect of their application, whether it be GPA, OAT scores, or clinical experience. Salus worked with me to understand the weak areas in my application as they make an effort to learn the individuality of their applicants to help graduate passionate clinicians.

Salus is the school for me! Is it the school for you?
