Why did you choose Salus?
Coming from Pingree, North Dakota, a town of fewer than sixty people, my journey to optometry school at Salus was shaped by a deep-seated appreciation for rural healthcare. Growing up in such a close-knit community, I witnessed firsthand the importance of accessible and personalized healthcare services. This experience fueled my passion for rural health and drove my decision to pursue optometry, where I could make a meaningful impact in areas like my hometown.
Salus stood out to me not only for its curriculum but also for its hands-on approach to learning. From early clinical exposure to immersive hands-on experiences, Salus provided a dynamic learning environment that aligned perfectly with my learning style. The opportunity to engage with patients and apply theoretical knowledge in real clinical settings from the outset was invaluable. It not only enhanced my practical skills but also solidified my confidence in diagnosing and treating a diverse range of eye conditions.
Moreover, the diverse patient population at The Eye Institute further enriched my education. Experiencing a wide spectrum of pathologies and cases prepared me extensively for the complexities I will encounter in my future practice. This exposure has been instrumental in shaping my clinical expertise and readiness to serve a variety of patients’ needs effectively.
As I approach graduation in just a few months, I am eager to return to North Dakota and give back to the state that has given me so much. Equipped with a comprehensive education from Salus and fueled by a passion for rural healthcare, I look forward to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in my community, ensuring they receive the high-quality eye care they deserve.
