Hello! My name is Riley and I am a second-year Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P) student. I am currently in my last semester before I head out to my 18-month residency.
My day really depends on the day of the week. Every day is a different class, and the coursework builds on itself so we reinforce all of the knowledge throughout the week, month, and semester. A typical day will lead us through lectures, followed by lab time either later that day or that week to get us hands-on time with the lecture from the day before. Currently in lower limb prosthetics, we have a lecture the day before where I spend about an hour or two the night before preparing for, followed by lab time the next day.
We will typically see patient models every other week focusing on different types of sockets, levels of amputation/limb difference, and the fabrication processes for those prosthesis. Class times and lab times depend on the day, but on lab days, you can typically expect a long day.
