What could be better on a Thursday afternoon before a long weekend than food, music, sunshine, mingling with classmates, and getting a chance to dunk three deans? Another perfect day for the Salus Scoop!
In its second year, the Scoop is an information-gathering session for new students held outside and combined with a block party atmosphere that is fun and relaxing after the first full week of classes. The event is organized by the Executive Council of Student Government and has fast become a campus favorite.
Students from Audiology, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology programs get to learn about the different student organizations Salus has to offer during their time here. With food provided by Culinart and plenty of beverages to help slake their thirst on a hot day, the students had a chance to wind down.
In addition to the many student organizations, there were tables with information from the Offices of Student Affairs (Registrar, Bursar), Student Finance, Technology and Library Services, Safety and Security and the Matthews Bookstore.
This year’s weather offered blue skies and high temps – just right for a dunk tank. Salus/PCO’s Dr. Lori Grover, dean, and Dr. Melissa Trego, associate dean of Optometric Academic Affairs and Dr. Jim Caldwell, dean of Student Affairs for the University, were great sports, as students took aim and “dunked the deans.”
