Dr. Victor Bray, dean of the University’s Osborne College of Audiology (OCA), provided the keynote speech at the Hearing Loss Association of America’s (HLAA) annual Lunch and Learn event held on Saturday, May 7. The Pennsylvania chapter of the HLAA celebrated its 15th anniversary as a state organization, and is dedicated to providing information, education, and advocacy for individuals with hearing loss. OCA faculty and students were in attendance along with numerous cochlear manufacturers, phone captioning providers, and various support groups.
In his address, Dr. Bray discussed the transition in the profession of audiology, the relationship between hearing loss patients and the future of audiology services, and various legislative bills that may limit how audiology services are delivered to patients. He opened a discussion where attendees could ask questions and provide their opinions on the topic. “Dr. Bray’s presentation gave us a good perspective on what is currently going to affect those of us with hearing loss as we purchase services and hearing aids now and in the future,” said Carolyn Meyer, HLAA-PA Outreach Coordinator. The annual event is open to the community, and is fully accessible with Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART), ASL interpreters, and a hearing loop.
