Thousands took part in the annual MuckFest Philadelphia 5K Mud and Fun Run on Saturday, June 4 and 5 in Glen Mills, PA. Runners and supporters rallied together for the 5K race full of 15 mud-filled obstacles to help raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s research to stop the progression of the disease and ultimately end it. Over 7,300 runners conquered the course across the two day period and raised over $600,000.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system, disrupting the flow of information between the brain and body, and affects over 2.3 million individuals worldwide. The University’s team - Philadelphia’s largest team with 78 members - raised over $3,000 through generous donations. “The support we received from the Salus Community was overwhelming,” said team captain Melissa Tucker ‘17OT, vice-president of the Student Occupational Therapy Association. “Student, faculty, and staff participants had a fantastic time and many contributed to support this important cause,” she said. The National MS Society facilitates MuckFest MS Mud Runs to raise money to drive research for a cure to stop MS in its tracks. Over the next few months, several other MuckFest MS Mud Runs will be held in cities across the United Sates. Although this year’s run has come to an end, Salus students are already looking forward to next year’s festivities. “We’re excited to continue participating in this interdisciplinary event - I’m expecting next year to be even bigger and better,” Tucker said.
