11th Annual Children's Fundraiser

The eleventh annual “Looking Out for Kids” (LOFK) charity fundraiser will be held on Saturday, November 11, at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, Pa. The event helps support some of the Philadelphia area’s most vulnerable children by raising money through not only corporate support, but an online auction too. New this year, guests can bid on exclusive event-only auction items in addition to items listed in the online auction, which opens with a preview on September 14. Each week, additional exciting items will be added.

Emmy-winning NBC10 news anchor and reporter Rosemary Connors will co-host the evening as guests enjoy dinner, drinks and dancing. This year, the University and The Eye Institute will honor Shelly Yanoff, former executive director of Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY), as the second “Looking Out for Kids” Lighthouse Award recipient. The Lighthouse Award was established by Salus University in 2016 to honor those who are beacons of light and sources of strength in the community in which they live, work, and serve, above and beyond their occupations. Yanoff’s tireless commitment to improving the lives of the Philadelphia region’s children by developing initiatives and advocating for quality healthcare, child care, public education and family stability embodies the meaning of the Lighthouse Award.

About LOFK

For decades, The Eye Institute’s (TEI) doctors and optometric interns have been providing vision care services for children in need within the Philadelphia community. The “Looking Out for Kids” (LOFK) vision care initiative and charity fundraiser was formally established in 2007 with its first annual gala event.

All funds raised throughout the night help provide vision care services and eyeglasses to uninsured and under insured children in Philadelphia and its surrounding communities. Strong vision is the key to academic performance as 80 percent of learning is visual. With an estimated one in four children having a vision problem, untreated vision issues can affect a child’s success in school. LOFK is making a difference to positively affect children’s academic success by providing vision care for those in need.
