SLI Welcomes Eric Smith and Jaqueline Rowland as Clinical Educators

Salus University welcomes Eric J. Smith, MA, CCC-SLP, and Jaqueline Rowland, MEd, MS, CCC-SLP, as clinical educators. Both will oversee Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) students as they work with clients in the Speech-Language Institute (SLI), the SLP program’s on-campus clinical facility.

Smith brings more than a decade of experience as a pediatric SLP, specializing in language development, early intervention, autism, and articulation and phonological disorders. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. and a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Wayne State University in Detroit. He is a member of the 2017-2018 American Speech-Language Hearing Associations’ (ASHA) Leadership Development Project in the Schools Cohort, which allows him to strengthen his leadership skills through more in-depth collaboration with colleagues who also work/have worked in school-based environments. 

Rowland, who brings five years of experience as an SLP and nearly a decade of experience as a teacher, specializes in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). AAC includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas, according to ASHA. She graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ with a bachelor’s degree in History/International Studies and a minor in Political Science. She then went on to earn her master of education in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies from Arcadia University and her master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State. She has also conducted research about the relationships between parents of children with autism and professionals, and augmentative and alternative communication for children with multiple disabilities.
