2018 ASHA Convention

Faculty at the ASHA convention welcome poster

Recently, members of the Salus community, both faculty and students alike, attended the 2018 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention in Boston.

The ASHA Convention is an annual professional education event for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. According to  ASHA, the convention brings together approximately 15,000 attendees and provides unparalleled opportunities to hear the latest research and gain new skills and resources annually.

ASHA Poster Presentation - Bob and StudentThe convention included oral seminars, technical sessions, hands-on/demo labs, and poster/e-poster sessions in addition to receptions and open houses for additional networking. Salus students, faculty and recent alumni collaborated and presented posters that reflected on their diverse interests and experiences. The full list of presenters can be found below. Program directors and admissions counselors also had an opportunity to meet with interested undergraduate students during the Graduate Program Fair.

Bob Serianni, MS, CCC-SLP, clinical director of the Speech-Language Institute (SLI) and assistant professor in the University’s Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program, considers the convention a success for Salus with representation at national meetings which were held during the convention, participation in focus groups, and networking events.

“I think one of the most interesting connections I made was during a networking event focused on interprofessional education and practice,” said Serianni. “Several colleagues from other Universities were highly interested in hearing how Salus integrates its varied disciplines into classroom and clinical experiences for its students, so they learn how to be collaborative in their practice areas.”
