Board Member Jane Scaccetti Granted Emeritus Status

Jane Scaccetti’s passion for healthcare started when she was eight years old and her mother fell ill with a chronic lifelong affliction. Because of that, Jane quickly learned the value of the healthcare professionals who compassionately treated her mother and the entire family.

Even so, when in 2008 by Donald Gleklen, JD then chair of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) Board of Trustees, approached Jane to join the board, she was baffled as to why he thought she would fit into the role.

Jane Scaccetti“I had no interests or contacts that spoke to optometry or audiology, but I was interested in helping our healthcare community,” said Scaccetti, CPA, MST. “Then I met Jo Surpin (board member and current chair of the board) and I was hooked. I realized I wanted to make a difference and that Salus was an institution where my talents just might make a difference.”

And, so they have. In fact, University officials valued her 12 years of contribution on the board, first as chair of the Finance Committee and most recently as chair of the Health Services Committee and Executive Committee, that Scaccetti was granted emeritus status by the board at its January 2021 meeting. She will now participate and continue to contribute as an emeritus trustee.

“Jane has provided tremendous leadership and guidance in her tenure as a Salus University board member” said Surpin. “She has made us all better at what we do. Achieving emeritus status is a testament to her commitment to the University and is so well deserved.  It has been an honor to serve with her.”

In 1987, while a partner in the national accounting firm of Laventhol & Horwath, Scaccetti became the first woman tax partner of any international firm in Philadelphia. Since 1990, she has been the CEO of Drucker & Scaccetti, a consulting firm for families and their closely held and entrepreneurially driven businesses that value tax as a business strategy.

In addition to her role at Salus University, Scaccetti’s civic and community service includes serving as a trustee of Temple University. She was chair of the board of Temple University Health System (TUHS) for five years from 2008-2013 and served as a member of the Board of Directors chairing the Finance and Investment Committee until 2018. She was also chair of the board at Temple University Hospital where she served until 2018.

Starting in 2020, Jane now serves on the prestigious board of The Philadelphia Foundation. In 2018, she was elected to the board of the Philadelphia Center City District Foundation. She is a member of the Women’s Nonprofit Leadership Initiative (WNLI), a small group of women leaders established in 2012 who are dedicated to increasing diversity in the nonprofit sector, especially the large ‘meds and eds’ boards.

“I have had the honor of working with many great leaders while at Salus University. Mike Mittelman, Tom Lewis, Jo Surpin, Dan Abramowicz and Don Gleklen rank high on that list. All taught me how to lead with honor and humility. It was an honor to work with them,” said Scaccetti. “Salus University is in my heart. My emeritus status is very special to me for I can continue to contribute and support the Salus community. I am honored the board granted it to me.”
