‘The Light We See:’ Newest Gallery Exhibit

A new exhibit titled “The Light We See” is now on display through Feb. 24, 2022, at the D’Arrigo Family Gallery in the University’s Hafter Student Community Center.

The exhibit features the fine art photography work of Laura Ducceschi and Pam McLean-Parker.

Light We See art piece"It is stating the obvious that these are strange times. Keeping up one’s morale is in itself a full-time job,” said Elynne Rosenfeld, the gallery’s curator. “The best antidote to pandemic living is getting out in nature. Artists are kept inspired by the visual wonders that are often just outside the door. For the next few weeks, those on campus will see what Pam and Laura see for an uplifting, contemplative experience.”

Ducceschi’s photography has been recognized with awards and honors from local, national and international organizations. She has exhibited in art shows at The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Winterthur Museum, Philadelphia’s City Hall, the Philadelphia Flower Show, local art centers and many other venues, including numerous corporate and private collections. With a master’s degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania, and 25 years of teaching experience, she teaches photography and Photoshop with an emphasis on art and composition.

"The light I see illuminates the magic of patterns, textures and colors in our wild, weird, wonderful world. I am captivated with the revelation of intimate and intricate details, drawn in to examine and marvel at their existence and purpose,” said Ducceschi. “Photography provides the opportunity to isolate, emphasize and enhance the sense of wonder and awe. Is the world really this amazing and beautiful? I am reminded every day of the need to preserve and protect our precious planet.”

Light We See art pieceMcLean-Parker began exhibiting her unique photographs in 1988 while working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Rosemont College. In the Philadelphia area and beyond, her work has appeared in museums, galleries and art centers in solo, group, juried and invitational exhibitions and has received a handsome measure of recognition. She is the exhibition coordinator at Wayne Art Center and serves as exhibition director for the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists and as art editor of Philadelphia Stories magazine.

"The light I see is magnificent and moody. It is at once ancient and of the moment. It illuminates and bestows form. The light I see calls my eye and calls my lens,” said McLean-Parker. “Here by the Atlantic Ocean, I feel and I hear the light that I see. My photographs of the sea are contemplations of the energy and spirit of eternity and have been created as only the medium I love can allow.  Quite literally, photography is to draw with light.”
