The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and Doctor of Audiology programs at Salus University hosted a Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) advisors dinner in early November, welcoming pre-health advisors from several different universities to the Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, campus.
The evening offered the advisors dinner, tours of Salus’ facilities including labs and clinical sites, information on the Doctor of Audiology and SLP master’s degree programs, and networking with respective program leaders, Robert Serianni, MS, CCC-SLP, FNAP, director of the SLP program, and Radhika Aravamudhan, PhD, dean of the University’s Osborne College of Audiology (OCA).
“We have great programs at Salus — professors, supervisors, clinical facilities and labs that will prepare students to be exceptional clinicians in their respective fields for practice,” said Serianni. “By working with advisors, they can generate interest in students who want to find meaningful careers in health professions but might not know about speech-language pathology or audiology.”
The advisors welcomed to campus represented majors such as linguistics and health sciences, whose students have a variety of career path options. Having the advisors on campus allowed Serianni and Dr. Aravmudhan to not only tell advisors about their programs, but show them the variety of opportunities available at Salus. Several of the advisors came from local institutions, Temple being one, which provides great connections for staff and students as Salus is right in their backyard.
“It is a real opportunity to affect change in our professions and communities, and we still have work to do,” said Serianni. “We have a great team that is excited to promote the awesome work we do so that the programs can continue to recruit, retain and graduate competent, confident practitioners.”
Salus University, OCA and the SLP department are looking forward to hosting more events like this in the future.
