Salus University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program.
The results, released recently in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 212 colleges and universities. In all, 68 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with Salus included among the small universities with 500 to 2,999 students.
Salus University won honors in 10 out of 10 categories this year:
Shared Governance
Confidence in Senior Leadership
Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
Professional Development
Faculty Experience
Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging
Faculty & Staff Well-Being
Mission & Pride
Compensation & Benefits
Job Satisfaction & Support
"I am thrilled Salus received recognition from the Great Colleges to Work For survey. However, I am not surprised that our faculty and staff ranked us "high or very high" in ten out of ten categories in the survey," said Maura Keenan, MBA, CBES, vice president of Human Resources and Administrative Services. "It's easy for people to see how the Salus community affects our students and patients' lives for the better but what's not easily seen is what goes on behind the scenes to support our world class dedicated faculty and staff. That's what sets us apart even further."
Salus was also named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll, a status granted to only 42 colleges each year who are highlighted most across the recognition categories.
“Salus University is a great place to work because, central to our mission, we play an essential role in allowing aspiring healthcare providers realize their dream,” said University president, Dr. Michael Mittelman. “Working with consummate professionals who are student focused and actively engaged makes coming to work every day a sheer pleasure.”
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
"Great companies form a community around their employees - providing a common vision and support for everyone's goals," Keenan said. "Bedrocks of our Salus workplace community include respect, fairness, open communication, individual and group recognition, professional and personal engagement and innovation to mention a few. Each one of us has a role to play and everyone's contributions are extremely important!"
