Cradle for Hope: The Learning Resource Center (LRC) hosted a “Cradle of Hope” event where they collected donations for housing/support services including diapers, formula, wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and more for single mothers and their children in the Philadelphia area.
Dean’s Winter Fest: The Dean’s Winterfest was back to being held in the winter this year. After taking a hiatus since the start of the pandemic, the celebration returned and was changed to the Dean’s Springfest in 2022. As is its tradition, the event’s goal was to bring Salus students and the community together after the holidays for some fun and face-to-face interaction.
The Auricle - Osborne College of Audiology (OCA)
New partnership: OCA has a new partnership with the University of Lahore (UoL), Pakistan as a feeder program for the Master of Science in Clinical Audiology (MSCA) program. This will open up eight to 10 additional seats with clinical site placement at UoL in the hybrid MSCA program beginning February 2023.
Audiology Learning Experience: The goal of the University’s Audiology Learning Experience (ALE) program is to open students’ minds to the possibilities of an education and career in audiology, along with teaching and research opportunities in the profession. This year, ALE was held virtually on January 21. This year's one-day event was a highly interactive online experience and was open to undergraduate students at area colleges and universities who are interested in audiology as well as to those who may be undecided about their career direction.
OCA Faculty Publication: While attending the 2022 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) conference, Victor Bray, MSC, PhD, FNAP, OCA associate professor, co-presented “Analysis of Audiology and the (4-year) AuD Degree,” which resulted in a publication opportunity for a rework of the presentation titled “A New Analysis of the Audiology Workforce, Benchmarked to Other Healthcare Professions.” Dr. Bray discussed the publication in a recent interview, “Where Did All the Audiologists Go? Audiology Workforce Analysis Deep Dive with Victor Bray.”
Dr. Bray was also recently interviewed and contributed to Hearing Tracker’s “The Connections Between Hearing Loss and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)” publication.
PCO World - Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO)
Laser Course: PCO in conjunction with the University’s Department of International and Continuing Education (DICE), launched its first Ophthalmic Lasers for the Anterior Segment continuing education (CE) workshop. Lectures were delivered asynchronously and a hands-on workshop was offered for two days recently.
PCO Career Fair: The PCO Career Fair was hosted in the Hafter Student Community Center on January 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and gave PCO/Salus students an opportunity to learn more about full or part-time clinical externship opportunities in local practices.
Optometry Learning Experience: The Optometry Learning Experience (OLE) program is designed to offer participants the opportunity to investigate the academic study associated with PCO’s Doctor of Optometry degree, as well as the profession of optometry and the many career opportunities available. Students will have the opportunity to interact with faculty, staff, and current students, as well as virtually tour our clinical skills lab and The Eye Institute.
