Crafting a Competitive Application for Grad School

Do you have questions about how to best market yourself for graduate or professional school to stand out from the competition? Do you have trouble finding specific prerequisites or what is needed on school websites to make sure you are a qualified applicant?

Female student studyingSalus University’s Office of Admissions recently held a webinar on “Crafting A Competitive Application: Ways to Become a Qualified Applicant,” which will help you through this process.

Among the tips for prospective students:

  • Talk to your academic advisor
  • Talk to your undergraduate professors to secure references early regarding letters of recommendation
  • Write your personal statement and include: (1) Your motivation and desire for choosing your selected profession; how your background prepares you for this profession; future career goals; (2) Proofread your essay. Spelling and grammatical mistakes can detract from an otherwise strong personal statement
  • Know the prerequisites! Click here for each program’s prereqs
  • Apply early, don’t wait until the final deadline
  • Contact your schools of interest to speak with admissions counselors
  • Learn about the application process
