Connie Chronister, OD ‘86, MS ‘86, Resident ‘87

Alumni from all our programs recently provided memories from their time as students here on campus. Below is one excerpt from the collection.

Connie Chronister headshot1I am grateful for the opportunity to have attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and to have been able to pursue my passion for ocular health. It was intimidating and overwhelming to be the first in my family to attend PCO, but I was determined to make the most of the experience.

I was very active in athletics, playing on the soccer team and participating in intramural sports. I chose optometry as my major because it allowed me to have a medical career that involved treatment and management of ocular conditions and I chose PCO because of its emphasis on ocular disease.

After graduating, I completed a primary care residency and began teaching at PCO. Then mid-career, I decided to pursue a master's degree in Low Vision Rehabilitation and began seeing patients at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. I have been teaching for 37 years and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the profession. I am inspired by my students and their success and it is an honor to work with the future of our profession.
