First Year Occupational Therapy Student: Liz Forcellini

liz-ot.pngHi, my name is Liz Forcellini and I am one of the students in the Occupational Therapy (OT) Class of 2019! I recently graduated from Temple University with my bachelor’s and work as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist when I am not at school.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a therapist because I love working and interacting with people. Once I did some investigating, it was obvious that occupational therapy was the best fit for me. Salus was one of my top choices when applying for graduate school, and I am so happy that I ultimately chose this university to get my master’s degree.

Now sit back, and enjoy what a day in my life is like...

6:30 a.m. I am pressing snooze for the first time! Most days I am up and at them by 6:45 a.m.

7:00 a.m. COFFEE!! First things first, and that is always coffee for me. I then will pack my breakfastLiz's Lunch and lunch for that day. I always try to pack my food to stay healthy and save some money, but I have to admit, the Reflections Café on campus has great food too and Miss Jackie always has a smiling face!

During this time, I also pack my bag for school and always throw some extra snacks in my lunch box, just in case I have to stay late at school!

7:15-7:30 a.m. I hit the road and start my journey to Salus. I live with my parents right now and have about a 45 minute to an hour commute.

8:00-8:30 a.m. I have officially arrived at school! I like to get on campus early because parking is tight at Salus. I also like to take time before class to print anything that I might need that day, as well as catch up on any reading that I still need to complete. If I am all caught up on school work, I will go to work study for the OT Department and work with the professors on anything they need help with.

10:00 a.m. Time for the first class of the day - Pediatric Clinical Conditions! Since I think I want to work with kids one day, this is one of my favorite classes.

12:00 p.m. LUNCH!! Today I had to eat lunch while working on a group project with classmates. We work in groups for almost all of our projects, which has really helped me develop my communication and team building skills.

1:00 p.m. Time for class again! Research Methods is a three-hour long class, but thankfully the last for theday.

4:00 p.m. I may stay for a few minutes after class to chat with friends or to plan another group project. Once I have everything all wrapped up, it is time to head back home! If I leave by 4:15 p.m. the traffic isn’t too bad.

4:45-5:00 p.m. After sitting all day at school and while driving, I like to work out when I get home. I take some time to sweat it out!

5:30 p.m. After my workout, I like to take some time to review what homework I will need to do that night. I am the sticky note queen and use them to make my “to-do-list” for that evening and the next morning. Once I have my “to-do-list” completed, I get started on checking things off.

Liz's dinner

7:00 p.m. Time for dinner! Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies, and my parents work crazy hours, so I liketo have dinner ready for them when they come home. Cooking has turned into something fun for me, and I started a Foodstagram in the process. Family dinners are the best dinners.

8:00 p.m. I continue to work on my “to-do-list” until I have checked everything off!

10:30 p.m. Time to decompress! I like to watch some tv on the couch with my parents until it is time for bed. I also enjoy a little bit of time to veg out and check social media!

11:00 p.m. My head hits the pillow and I am slipping off into dreamland! Good night world, until tomorrow!
