The Standardized Patient Simulation Lab, which contains collaborative learning environments, eight patient examination rooms and a hospital room to simulate a real-world clinical environment, utilizes trained laypeople and actors as standardized patients to roleplay a variety of healthcare scenarios. This allows students to directly experience the process of differential diagnosis and to practice their communication and professionalism skills.
Once patient evaluation skills are gained, students can apply them in the adjacent Patient Simulation Lab. Student experiences are videotaped for feedback and review purposes. In addition, the space includes a conference room for post-simulation student debriefing, a simulated patient lounge, and a video control room.
