Service Learning with MANNA
As part of the integrated medicine course, students learn the medical benefits of therapeutic nutrition through a service learning experience at Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA) in Philadelphia. MANNA is a non-profit organization that prepares and delivers nutritious, medically modified meals and provides nutrition counseling to neighbors battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, renal disease, and HIV/AIDS. Students, along with PA faculty and staff volunteer in the preparation, packaging and delivery of healthy meals to area residents with chronic illness. Through the experience, students gain an understanding of health promotion through nutrition and the benefits of contributing as part of a team in service to others.
PA Olympics
PA Olympics is a philanthropic event held each year by Philadelphia area PA programs and provides an opportunity for students from the representative programs to collectively raise funds for a selected charity. Two student representatives from each program suggest a charity to support, which is then voted on. For the last few years the PA Olympics event has been a scavenger hunt around Center City Philadelphia, where the PA programs race against each other to complete challenges to obtain the clue for the next location in the race.
