The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Forbes and U.S. News & World Report are three organizations that have recently reported about the fastest-growing jobs, best jobs in healthcare, and 100 best jobs, respectively, with some of Salus University’s post-graduate and professional degree programs well represented.
“At Salus, we know how beneficial and crucial the degrees we offer are to the delivery of healthcare in this country,” said Dr. Janice Scharre, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “However, it’s always exciting and reaffirming to learn of more data that confirms this view.”
In its Occupational Outlook Handbook, the BLS reported on the fastest-growing occupations among all disciplines. The top 20 list includes occupations with the highest percent change of employment projected between 2014 through 2024. Healthcare support occupations/healthcare practitioners are one of the two groups projected to be the fastest growing during the decade. In addition, while Occupational Therapists are not in the top 20, the profession is represented at #2 for Occupational Therapy Assistants (43% growth rate).
Forbes reported data that ranked the top 12 healthcare jobs using a combination of five criteria: work environment, stress level, physical demands, median salary and projected job outlook by 2020. The ranking uses data from BLS, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, and trade groups like the American Psychiatric Association.

Finally, U.S. News & World Report recently published their 100 Best Jobs list, which covers all professions. Components considered in their rankings are median salary, employment rate, 10-year growth volume, 10-year growth percentage, future job prospects, stress level, and work-life balance.

Again, the occupational therapy profession is also represented with Occupational Therapy Assistant at #12.
